Sangria

Ingredients :

  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Lime
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 4-6 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp Brandy
  • 700 ml soda water/sparking mineral water
  • Some ice cubes

Method :

  1. (1) Slice the lime & lemon into rounds about 1/4 inch
    thick. Remove any pips.
  2. (2) Slice the orange in half & then cut each half into 1/4
inch thick slices, removing any pips. Place all fruit
in a large bowl or jug.
  3. (3) Add the sugar, brandy and wine and stir until well
mixed. If desired, add a bit more sugar to taste.
  4. (4) Refrigerate the mixture for about 1 hour or until
thoroughly chilled. Chill the soda water separately.
Just before serving, pour in the soda water. Pour
over ice into large wine glasses, adding some of the
sliced fruit to each glass & serve immediately.

Remarks :

  1. (1) May also be made with dry white wine.
  2. (2) If Sangria is made more than an hour or two in
advance, the fruit may discolour slightly because of
the red wine. This will not affect the taste, but fresh
fruit may be substituted for serving.
